Previously, Sir Andrew was Chief Executive and Board member of Network Rail, where he was instrumental as one of the three leaders of shadow Great British Railways (GBR), supporting the critical integration of track and train ahead of forthcoming legislation to establish the new body. Sir Andrew’s extensive career in the rail industry includes roles such as Managing Director of South West Trains and Managing Director of the Rail Division for First Group plc.
Prior to his time at Network Rail, Sir Andrew served as Chief Executive of the Civil Aviation Authority.
Sir Andrew was awarded an OBE in the 2016 New Year Honours list and received a Knighthood in the 2025 Honours list for his services to transport. He received an honorary doctorate from Ãå±±ÂÖ¼é in 2023.
